Renewing the Spirit of Your Leadership

Healthcare Executive Renewal Series

This program will focus on helping participants create more engagement, performance, and purpose in their own work and management teams. Based on the book Awakening Corporate Soul, we will explore the four paths to effective leadership that emerged from 3,000 interviews with people about times when fulfillment and performance were present in their work (150% experiences). The nature of this work is integrative, in that it helps participants become aware of areas of growth and strength within their own team and personal leadership style. The program will teach tools and practices that if implemented, can assist attendees in discovering more fulfillment and performance in their own work while creating greater engagement among their staff.

Outcomes/Learning Objectives:

  • Experience personal renewal through greater awareness of what the participants want to create in their lives, leadership and work.
  • Learn practical tools for helping yourself and others achieve a sense of ownership, pride and personal fulfillment at work
  • Re-Discover what is important to you within your work and how to take steps to create it
  • Identify what brings out your 150% and methods to bring that out in others
  • Have an experience of community building as you explore your journey and hear the journeys of others
  • Gain own understanding of the Four Paths to Engagement/Soul at work:
  • Apply tools and practices to current leadership competencies and styles
  • Participants will leave with a greater sense of purpose and focus, but also with an actions plan for implementing these tools and practices in their work and life

One of the unique things about our approach to creating an engaged Vibrant Team and culture is an extremely practical focus on what leaders can do to harvest the full passion of others and from themselves. We set out to create a simple yet profound model (the Four Paths) that would allow leaders to make changes. One of the comments we hear frequently from health care clients is that they were able to walk away with specific ideas that they can implement right away. In addition, we often include a section in the day when the team breaks into groups and identifies specific actions that every leader in the room can take to move the organization in the direction of more soul. Even if we don’t do this, which we probably should do, here are specific outcomes the participants will get:

  • Specific practices that they can do to stay connected to their own values and to ensure that their life and work align with those values on a daily and monthly basis. Practices are a critical part of this work and is what helps ensure that this is not simply a one day experience;
  • Specific ideas under each of the four paths of simple things they can do as leaders to create more vitality and soul in their teams/units as well as their own work. Throughout the day I will help leaders do this with examples as well as written list of “ways to act”;
  • A handout filled with ideas and practices that they can follow. In addition, we make workbooks available that take leaders on a 12-week process to create more soul in their work and teams. One Methodist health care organization found the workbook so valuable to some of their leaders that they purchased 100 for their entire management team;
  • Finally, each leader will take time at the end of the day to identify specific actions they will take when they leave. I find leaders uniformly have several key take-away ideas/actions.
